Rodney B. Wilson Jr. H.S. St. Johns MI Class of 1965 reunion
|
|
I suddenly decided to attend this reunion, the first since my family moved out of town in 1963. I greatly enjoyed meeting you all. Hope to see you all healthy & happy in five more years.
Most of these photos I shot without taking much care for composition. Several have been cropped or otherwise edited to remove red-eye and other technical flaws. If you can supply missing individuals or have better substitutes, let me know. Most of the original photos were 1200 x 1600 pixels. If you can't download photos from this site with that type of resolution, let me know & I can email copies of the original versions.
Those with connections to the St. Joseph Grade School class of 1961, check out what Greg & I have at http://www.miserybay.com/sjindy/class/index.htm if you haven't already.

Attemped to drive my camper from Boulder to Jamestown CO over this route, it was too steep & winding from my diesel engine to negotiate. I had to turn back and go downhill.

The Juniper campground is on a mesa near the edge of a cliff which forms the south rim of Frijoles Canyon. The Falls Trail leads from the parking lot of the Visitor Center at the bottom of the canyon and follows the course of the canyon to the edge of the Rio Grande 2.5 miles away. Somehow I was able to receive a cell phone text message at the bottom of the canyon very close to the river. In the distance to the south I was able to see a tall mountain, probably Sandia Crest, which must have been the site of the cell phone antenna.

16 July 2005 -- I went to the site of the first atomic explosion on White Sands Missile Range, 120 miles from Albuquerque, NM today, on the sixtieth anniversary of the test, code-named "Trinity". Attached is a panoramic view of the occasion, taken with a Canon A40 camera as a series of individual images, stitched together with a Canon utility named "Photostitch". The dark obelisk is the marker indicated Ground Zero for the test.
Another web site which summarizes the Trinity test may be found at: http://www.worldwideschool.org/library/books/hst/northamerican/TrinitySite-I/chap1.html
I met one of the Trinity test veterans, Mr. Jack Aeby, at this occasion. He was the only one at the test to successfully take a color photo of the blast. An interview with him may be head at this link: http://soundportraits.org/on-air/atom-bomb_photographer/ I found a copy of his photo on another site, information there states it is in the public domain, so I have posted a cropped copy here.
